26th November 2008, Mumbai was struck by inhuman terrorists who held the city to a standstill for over 60 hrs.
I am one of the many Indians who have got used to the ‘chalta hai’ attitude of life, for years, we have been loosing our people to these acts of terror. The sheer disregard of human life in these acts, and what do we do?? we scream we shout and we get back to life. We get back to earning more money … working longer hours to cover up for the loss of time that might have occured due to this uncalled for hindrance on a perfectly normal day.( I know of people who worked on the non working weekend to cover up for the lost time on wed, thur and fri) I am also one of those people who let it pass and let time heal everything, till life comes back on routine of waking up and having another day at work so as to earn decent amount of money to pay for my bills, my loans, my partying and not forget my TAXES.
Yes I do pay my taxes and have been paying a large chunk of my hard earned money towards it. The sizeable amount towards income tax, then there is VAT, service tax and what not. And thats not all being a mumbaiite, we as a city contribute to more than half the tax the central government gets from the whole country and yet we are suffering at the hands of terrorists who decide to walk into our city fully armed and rain bullets on the unsuspecting common man and we are expected to bounce back and bring life to normal.
I was at the effies when i got the first phone call about some commotion at leopold and CST, I really dint take it seriously, it only struck me when i was driving back home and saw the amount of police on the roads that something serious has happened. I reach back and switch on the news and couldnt sleep that night as i shifted from one news channel to another in disbelief as to what was happening in my city. It all seemed surreal, i felt angry but helpless and more than anything else i felt sad. before entering the ad world i was a part of the hospitality industry. I have waited tables at the oberois as part of our training while studying Hotel management. I have been to Taj for my campus interviews. I have seen that life and somehow it brought back memories of those days and a picture in my head of being one of them. Being shot while i run for life with my colleagues.
Did i loose someone to those bullets ?!! Hell yes !! I lost myself over and over again with the death toll increasing as every hour passed by. I still keep getting news of someone shot and surviving and some who did not make it and it fills my heart with sorrow. And what do we do? Our agency shut shop on thursday for our safety, but the terror dint die and fri morning what do we see? Everyone is back in office discussing the news while they try to think for the next big idea to win the next gold lion. With the terror not ending everyone left early, definitely a little terror stricken and scared of what more could happen to our city.
Somehow the effies were still ringing in my head and with JWT sweeping away a lot of awards for the gangofgirls.com (I believe bcwebwise deserves those) and the Lead India Campaign. Brilliant campaign I must say, in fact just what we need today to happen, we need leadership to take this country forward. We are led by a bunch of fools, sadly again elected by us or should i say elected because people like us do not vote. I cant believe that a campaign like Jaago Re has to be done to wake up the youth of the nation to come and vote. All is well and the creators will win good PR and a couple of awards … but can a Lead India campaign get us new leaders to this country? While a jaago re awakens people to vote, do we even have worthy candidates??
Its sad that a terror attack like this is what it took to really awaken the slumber party that we all are. We are reacting, collecting in sizeable amounts and raising a voice. What next? Everyone seems to be saying that these politicians are useless .. so lets say we take away the power from the congress and strip them of their titles, then who do we give it to? the BJP ?? and what will happen?? Does anyone expect a miraculous change in the way things are?? I dont see it, in fact i dont see anyone in our current political system bringing the change that we need. I just think we all need to calm down, take a step back and find someone who can really lead the country. Or like a true democracy stand up for ourselves and form a peoples party for the people by the people. It is us who need to make the difference and it wont happen till we dont do it.
Having said that, let me come back to terrorism. Why do we call US a super power? just because they go in with guns blazin into any country that lays a scratch on them. We on the other hand are led by a bunch of old hags who half the time do not understand whats happening next to them, forget understanding what they should be doing with our country. Who get the best trainied forces as their security guards and get payed for all the luxury (without any taxes) by our hard earned money. Why dont we pick our guns and bombs and raid into these torror training camps and destroy them just like the US did in afghanistan. Why are we to give evidence and prove ourselves to the US and the EU nations, who are they?? our daddies?? Why dont we the people demand justification on the money spent which goes out of our pockets to these ministers so that they could have the best security, accomodation. cars, foriegn education for their kids while ours struggle to fight the quota system in public schools. When we go and buy things for ourselves from stores sporting fashion labels and all the ‘In” brands we ask for value for our money and if the product turns out defective we go and fight with them to give us a better product / service. Why dont we do the same with out govt?? Its our money that these assholes are enjoying on and they are answerable to us.
What we need is a revolution of some sorts to turn the situation over and I pray that it happens soon!!

Ok so people who know me might agree to the fact that my life is pretty much an open book .. makes me predictable and boring but then thats just the way i am.
have a handfull of friends and i like sharing my small little joys with each one of them. Be it an old memory or something new in my life
I am sure many might not be liking the fact that i come clean at the least bit of probing but then thats how I am … gullible, straightforward and in your face!
I am sure many that i share with might not be keping it to themselves or be happy with facts that i share, sometimes it makes me sound like a boastfull bragging unmodest fool. But really my intentions are otherwise
probably the need to connect with everyone on the same level, cause i never make friends and bias them with oh i am gonna share this much with one and that much with the other. everybody gets an equal share!
but true as someone said i need to learn on how to omit a few pages which should not be for everyone!

Well yes exuding energy i do relate with, black holes oh they must be talking about the dark circles under the eyes and evolution its gonna be for there as a new creative powerhouse is in the making. Hope i am somehow a fruitful part of this evolution!
